About Course

Form 1 Chemistry — Term 1 is a structured introductory chemistry course designed to help learners develop a strong foundation in the study of matter, chemical science and laboratory practice.

The course begins with Introduction to Chemistry, where learners discover what chemistry is, explore its major branches and understand its importance in everyday life. Learners will examine the role of chemistry in areas such as personal care, food, medicine and the environment, while considering how chemistry can be used to address real-world challenges.

Learners will also develop essential laboratory safety and waste-management skills. They will learn how to apply safe practices in the laboratory, classify different types of laboratory waste and understand appropriate methods of waste management. The course introduces common chemistry apparatus and equipment and develops learners’ ability to make measurements with greater precision and accuracy.

The second major topic, Matter, introduces learners to the states and basic units of matter. Learners will explore the kinetic theory of matter and examine evidence for the movement of particles through diffusion and Brownian motion.

The course concludes with heating and cooling curves, where learners learn how to construct and interpret graphs showing changes in temperature as matter is heated or cooled.

Through clear explanations, demonstrations, practical activities, worked examples, quizzes and assessments, learners will develop scientific knowledge, laboratory awareness, observation skills and problem-solving abilities.

Explore chemistry. Understand matter. Think like a scientist.
